Makeup, Acne Medicine, and the War on Towels

Featuring Simon the Raccoon (Who Has Seen Too Much)

Somewhere in Red Lodge right now, a perfectly innocent towel is being emotionally damaged.

And unfortunately… Simon has witnessed all of it.

“I thought I’d seen stains before. I was wrong.” – Simon, probably

At Beartooth Cleaning of Red Lodge, Montana, we walk into vacation rentals after check-out and immediately begin what Simon calls:

“The Towel Investigation.”

It’s not always pretty.

Makeup: A Personal Vendetta Against Towels

Makeup is designed to survive:

• Tears

• Sweat

• Snowstorms

• Emotional life choices

Simon has strong opinions about this.

“If it survives a breakup, it’s definitely surviving your towel.”

Most makeup contains oils, waxes, and pigments that cling to fabric like Simon clings to snacks he found five minutes ago.

Common offenders:

• Waterproof mascara (Simon’s #1 enemy)

• Liquid foundation

• Long-wear lipstick

• Self-tanner (aka “towel redecorator”)

Once it hits a towel, it settles in like it pays rent.

Acne Medicine: The Silent Destroyer

Now we get to the part where Simon gets genuinely offended.

Benzoyl peroxide.

“That’s not a stain. That’s an attack.” – Simon

Unlike makeup, this stuff doesn’t stain.

It bleaches.

That mysterious orange spot you see on towels?

That’s benzoyl peroxide doing science while everyone sleeps.

Simon has taken this personally.

“I blamed the towel at first. I regret that.”

What We See in Vacation Rentals

At Beartooth Cleaning, this is a regular episode of:

“What Happened Here?”

Simon’s official field notes include:

• “Mascara removal… aggressive.”

• “Foundation applied directly to towel?? Bold choice.”

• “Self-tanner situation escalating.”

• “Unidentified orange blotch. Suspect: benzoyl peroxide.”

Laundry day becomes less cleaning… more investigation.

How to Save Your Towels (According to Professionals… and Simon)

Even Simon agrees there are better ways.

1. Remove makeup first

“Use wipes. Not the towel. The towel has been through enough.”

2. Use makeup cloths

“The black ones. Those are the chosen ones.”

3. Rinse acne treatments fully

“If it can bleach a towel, maybe don’t leave it on your face and grab fabric.”

4. Pat dry, don’t scrub

“You’re not sanding wood. Relax.”

Respect the towel. It did nothing to you.”
