Under The Bed Chronicles

“Why We Don’t Use Turno”

There’s a reason we don’t use the Turno app.

And it’s not because we dislike technology.

We dislike the idea of treating vacation rental care like ordering fast food through a drive-thru window.

Because your property is not “one bedroom, one bathroom, click submit.”

That’s absurd.

Vacation rentals are living, breathing spaces with quirks, traffic patterns, storage issues, supply problems, strange owner habits, mystery light switches, and that one cabinet that only closes if you threaten it emotionally.

Yet some apps reduce the entire cleaning process down to:

  • How many bedrooms?
  • How many bathrooms?
  • What would you charge?

That’s it.

No walkthrough.

No relationship.

No understanding of the property.

No idea how the home flows.

No idea whether the owner even has enough linens to survive a same-day turnover without somebody panic-washing towels at midnight.

And somehow we’re all supposed to pretend this is “streamlined.”

No.

Before we ever take on a vacation rental, we want to physically walk the property.

We want to see:

  • How the home flows
  • Where supplies are stored
  • Whether the owner has enough backup linens
  • What surfaces require specialty care
  • If there are staging expectations
  • What products can and cannot be used
  • Whether the property is actually set up for guest turnover success

Because no two homes are the same.

A two-bedroom condo can take longer than a four-bedroom cabin depending on layout, surfaces, laundry setup, guest traffic, inventory organization, and whether somebody thought matte black fixtures were “a timeless choice.” Tiny fingerprints. Everywhere. A crime scene sponsored by lotion.

You cannot accurately price, schedule, or properly care for a property by staring at a few boxes on an app.

That’s not hospitality.

That’s roulette with microfiber cloths.

We also believe owners deserve to know who is inside their property BEFORE the first clean. Not after.

You should know:

  • Who’s handling your home
  • Whether they’re insured
  • Whether they carry workers comp
  • How they communicate
  • What standards they follow
  • How they handle problems when things go wrong

Because eventually something WILL happen.

A broken coffee pot.

A leaking sink.

A guest who apparently exfoliated with self-tanner directly against a white duvet.

That’s vacation rentals.

And when those moments happen, communication matters more than apps.

At Beartooth Cleaning, we still believe vacation rental care should be personal.

We believe in walkthroughs.

We believe in communication.

We believe in partnerships.

We believe your property deserves more than “accepted job request.”

Maybe that sounds old-fashioned.

But your guests notice the difference.

And your reviews do too.

Simon’s Completely Unnecessary Commentary:

Simon attempted to sign up for Turno once.

The app asked:

“How many bedrooms?”

Simon answered:

“Emotionally or legally?”

It went downhill from there.

He then attempted to submit:

  • “One raccoon office”
  • “Three panic closets”
  • “Unknown towel density”
  • And “strong haunted energy in hallway”

His application was denied shortly after he attached a hand-drawn map labeled:

“Probable Dust Bunny Migration Routes.”

Honestly, probably for the best.
