Under the Bed
“Red, White & Boom: Why Your Vacation Rental Looks Like A Fireworks Crime Scene”
There are two kinds of people on the Fourth of July:
People who responsibly enjoy a patriotic holiday.
And people who somehow get barbecue sauce on the ceiling fan.
Every year, vacation rentals across America transform into temporary freedom forts powered by hot dogs, cheap beer, sparklers, wet swimsuits, and decisions that should have been discussed first. Somewhere around 11:47 PM, somebody always says:
“Do you think this glitter cannon is biodegradable?”
No.
No it is not.
Neither is your dignity after attempting a cannonball into a hot tub while holding a Roman candle.
Meanwhile, the cleaning crews arrive the next morning looking like forensic investigators at a potato salad explosion.
At Beartooth Cleaning, we love summer season. We genuinely do. The energy is fun, families are traveling, grills are going, mountain towns are alive again, and everybody’s trying to squeeze every drop out of summer before winter comes back to personally insult Montana for nine straight months.
But Fourth of July week?
Partner… that’s a whole different rodeo.
And in Red Lodge, it literally is.
The Rodeo Crowds Arrive
The Home of Champions Rodeo runs July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and the entire town shifts into full cowboy overdrive.
Now listen.
We love the rodeo. It’s tradition. It’s history. It’s summer in Montana at full volume.
But vacation rentals during rodeo week?
Absolute rodeo gremlin energy.
Suddenly every property contains:
- Twenty-seven cowboy hats
- Arena dust in places dust should never exist
- Coolers multiplying in the kitchen overnight
- Somebody’s boots lined up like a tactical operation by the front door
- Enough Wrangler denim to insulate a garage
And for reasons science cannot explain, rodeo crowds produce towels at alarming levels.
You’ll walk into a perfectly nice rental and discover:
- Hay in the entryway
- Beer cans arranged like modern art
- One mysterious belt buckle the size of a hubcap
- Dirt in the bathtub despite everyone claiming they “just showered”
Meanwhile, the Can-Do Crew is flipping properties at NASCAR pit-crew speed while the entire town smells faintly like sunscreen, horses, barbecue smoke, leather, fireworks, and freedom.
Honestly, it’s kind of beautiful in a terrifying way.
The Refrigerator Contains:
- Half a watermelon
- Twelve sauces with no lids
- One single hot dog in a ziplock bag
- Beer somebody “didn’t want to waste”
- A patriotic cake slowly collapsing into itself
And somehow:
Mustard fingerprints. Everywhere.
Scientists should study mustard. It travels farther than logic suggests.
The Towels Have Seen Things
White towels during Fourth of July week become unwilling participants in human freedom.
Self-tanner.
Fire pit smoke.
Waterproof mascara.
Red popsicle residue.
Charcoal handprints.
Then somebody says:
“We tried to help and started laundry.”
Which means every towel is now marinating in a washer for twelve hours developing what can only be described as Damp Towel Energy. The scent of regret and unfinished intentions.
The Grill Situation
People treat grills like they’re immortal.
A grill after Fourth of July looks like it reenlisted in combat.
Burned cheese fused to metal.
Hamburger fossils.
Corn kernels somehow in the propane tray.
One lonely asparagus spear clinging to existence.
And somebody always leaves the grill brush directly on the ground like it retired there.
Simon’s Fourth of July Safety Announcement
Simon the raccoon has once again been appointed completely unqualified Holiday Safety Coordinator.
He is currently standing in the parking lot wearing a Beartooth Cleaning hat, holding a clipboard upside down, blowing his stop whistle at sparklers, and trying to confiscate illegal glitter.
Unfortunately Simon has also eaten three hot dogs and now believes he’s part of the fire department.
Morale is mixed.
Fireworks And Vacation Rentals: A Delicate Relationship
Nothing says “family memories” quite like trying to explain to an owner why there are bottle rocket sticks in the flower pots.
Or why somebody’s uncle attempted “just one little fountain” on a wooden deck.
People forget that vacation rentals are still someone’s property. Owners work incredibly hard to create a relaxing place for guests, and cleaners work incredibly hard to reset that property at absolute warp speed for the next arrival.
Same-day turns during holiday weeks are basically organized chaos with microfiber cloths.
One late checkout can send the entire day into a dramatic spiral involving laundry math, scheduling gymnastics, and a cleaner whispering:
“Who used fourteen bath towels?”
A Tiny Holiday PSA From Your Cleaners
Before checkout:
- Please take trash out if instructed
- Don’t leave food everywhere
- Don’t start mystery laundry projects at 2 AM
- If something spills, a quick wipe helps more than you think
- Glitter is never “just a little glitter”
And maybe… maybe…
don’t let children carry ketchup near white bedding at full sprint.
That’s not patriotism.
That’s a liability event.
Final Thoughts From Under The Bed
Despite the chaos, we really do love seeing families gather, celebrate, laugh, and make memories.
Summer in Montana feels special for a reason.
The rodeo crowds roll in.
The mountains stay awake late.
The fireworks start.
Tourists discover bear spray exists.
And somewhere, a cleaner is removing watermelon from a lampshade while quietly questioning modern civilization.
That’s the circle of life.
From all of us at Beartooth Cleaning:
Have a safe, happy, and slightly less glitter-covered Fourth of July.
And please…
respect checkout time.
The Can-Do Crew already has enough character development this season, partner.
