Construction Dust: “Hold My Beer.”
Construction Dust: “Hold My Beer.”
There are a few things in this world that simply refuse to leave.
Mosquitoes.
That one popcorn kernel stuck between your teeth.
The mystery Tupperware lid that has no matching container.
And construction dust.
If you’ve ever had remodeling done, you’ve probably stood in your freshly cleaned house, admired your beautiful new kitchen or bathroom, smiled proudly…
…and then noticed a thin gray layer of dust on the countertop you just wiped.
You stare at it.
It stares back.
Somewhere, construction dust cracks open a beer.
“Hold my beer.”
It looked at glitter and said, “You think you’re annoying? Amateur.”
Glitter gets all the attention.
Teachers complain about it.
Parents complain about it.
Craft stores practically sell it by the pound.
Construction dust doesn’t need publicity.
It quietly infiltrates your HVAC system, your light fixtures, inside your cabinets, on top of your ceiling fans, behind your toilet, under your refrigerator, and somehow… inside a drawer that hasn’t been opened since the Clinton administration.
It doesn’t sparkle.
It doesn’t celebrate birthdays.
It simply chooses violence.
At Beartooth Cleaning, construction cleans are some of the most satisfying jobs we do.
They’re also some of the funniest.
Not because the homeowners are laughing.
They’re usually standing in the middle of their brand-new renovation wondering how the dust managed to get inside a closed cabinet.
Simon just nods.
“It has methods.”
The funny thing is, people sometimes think we missed something because they see dust the next day.
Nope.
That’s just construction dust doing what construction dust does best.
You vacuum.
It settles.
You wipe.
It settles again.
You mop.
It says, “Cute.”
Gravity is working twenty-four hours a day, and every little vibration from footsteps, doors closing, or the HVAC kicking on sends another microscopic cloud floating through the air.
That’s why professional post-construction cleaning often happens in stages.
The first visit removes the heavy debris.
The second catches the dust that settled after the first cleaning.
Sometimes there’s even a third touch-up because construction dust apparently has an unlimited supply and an impressive work ethic.
Honestly, if construction dust worked this hard at paying taxes, we’d all retire early.
Simon has developed a healthy respect for it.
He walks into every construction clean carrying his clipboard, banana phone, and STOP whistle.
He blows the whistle dramatically.
“Listen up, dust. This is your final warning.”
The dust ignores him completely.
Five minutes later, it’s back on the windowsill.
Simon writes another note on his clipboard.
“Dust has chosen chaos.”
Thankfully, so has the Can-Do Crew.
We’ll vacuum it.
We’ll wipe it.
We’ll clean the vents, the trim, the baseboards, the windows, the light fixtures, and every surface we can reach.
Then we’ll come back and clean it again after gravity finishes helping.
Because unlike glitter…
Construction dust eventually loses.
It just puts up one heck of a fight first.
🐻 Simon’s Final Thought
“Glitter walks into a room and says, ‘Look at me!’ Construction dust walks into a room, cracks open a beer, and says, ‘Hold my beer.’ Then it hides on top of your kitchen cabinets until you think your cleaners missed a spot. Respect the commitment. Hate the strategy.”
